A graduate of the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, she has worked primarily in theater with various creators and directors, including João Brites, Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno Pino Custódio, João Garcia Miguel, Raquel Castro, Miguel Moreira, Ana Nave, Tiago Vieira, Tónan Quito, and Teresa Coutinho, among others. She has appeared as an actress in various film and television productions. She was a member of the permanent ensemble at Teatro O Bando, having performed in several of the group’s productions since 2001. In 2018, she was nominated for the SPA Authors’ Award in the category of Best Theater Actress. She currently teaches voice at ACT – Escola de Atores. In 2020, she directed the play “Madalena,” co-produced by TNDMII, Teatro Viriato, and the Ovar Art Center. In 2021, she premiered Tennessee Williams’ “Two Characters,” in which she both starred and co-directed with Carla Galvão. She is the Director of Actors at SP Televisão – SIC. Sara de Castro has been involved in artistic projects, carried out collaboratively with other women from diverse communities, that reflect on violence and gender inequality from a perspective of social, political, and artistic transformation. She is also the coordinator of the MUDA project—Harassment in the Arts in Portugal. Her most recent production, “Justiça Cega,” premiered in January 2026 at the S. Luiz Municipal Theater and has already been performed in several cities across Portugal as well as at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
